Day 303 - Greenscreen Boss

Day 303.

I've always had the sneaking suspicion that Julie's boss is actually greenscreened during his scenes in Julie & Julia. Like, the whole time, he's not actually in an office. I mean, look at it!

Does this seem like obvious greenscreen effect to anyone else? Maybe this is just me going crazy again, but isn't there just the slightest halo around his silhouette? There is, right? At least enough to irk me for the last 200 viewings or so. The first 100, I didn't notice. But now it just really, really bothers me!

Filmmakers usually use greenscreen for difficult shots to obtain in real life, like huge exotic landscapes or cliffs or dinosaurs or other stuff like that.

So I have no idea why they would use one here--it's not like you can't easily find real office space to shoot in. And they did! For all of the other office scenes! Why cut corners here? They could've used some other office set, even. I imagine those are pretty easy to come by WHEN YOU'RE MAKING MAJOR FEATURE FILMS. I don't know. Someone please confirm my suspicions.

God, I'm so sad and lonely.

  1. Hey, let's look at the bright side here, Lawrence: At least you don't have to watch Burlesque every day for a year. Only 4 minutes shorter than Julia and Julia, but way, way less Meryl Streep, way more awful musical numbers and even worse Christina Aguilera wigs, and about the same amount of Stanley Tucci.

  4. Kinda reminds me of the so-obviously fake "view" out of Ari Gold's office in Entourage...didn't notice it until a few seasons in, but I could never look at that office without cringing after I did..
